Training load management in elite football using SSG

Andrea Riboli Applied Sport Scientist and Adjunct Professor /University of Milan (Italy)

The presentation aims to introduce some of the recent findings about training load management in elite football. Different soccer-specific drills such as small- or large-sided games (SSGs), positional drills, etc. are largely utilized to integrate technical, tactical, physical and psychological demands during training routines. Therefore, the SSGs intensity is a crucial feature for coaches and sport scientists. The SSGs can be contextualized within official match requirements to maximize transfer to the game-like and performance goals, suggesting several practical applications. Moreover, the most demanding passages of match play and the distribution of activities relative to peak demands during official match can provide additional insights for exercise prescription and training load management in football.
